DJ STEVE BRIERS SPEAKS OUT ABOUT NOR

‘Narberth & Whitland Rotary Club in conjunction with Narberth RFC have successfully organised an event over recent years entitled ‘Narberth Outdoor Rock’ held on the pitch at Narberth Rugby Club. As the DJ and compere for this fantastic event, I have seen it grow in terms of popularity, public awareness, and in the production too with the 2024 NOR event seeing a professional purpose built stage and lighting and PA rig being used, courtesy of EPS Events. Although it’s an Outdoor Event, we have a superb 500 seater stand facing the stage for use in inclement weather (though we always keep our fingers crossed for no rain). We also provide spectator marquees for the same reason which can accommodate a further 400 people, but mostly we’ve been blessed with good weather and happy people dancing and watching in the open air.

It’s been an absolute pleasure to be a part of this event and I have witnessed some fantastic acts from backstage and from the front, and more importantly, I’ve seen thousands of happy party people enjoying the local festival-style atmosphere without it being an all day or all weekend event, the music, the food and drinks, and hospitality from the hosts. We have had top quality tribute bands … Queen, Bon Jovi, Elton John, Bee Gees, Annie Lennox, Shania Twain, Amy Winehouse, plus awesome local bands also on the bill such as The Sleeping Dogs, Sorted, Ella Guru. It’s so good to be able to engage local bands as well as big name tribute acts as they enjoy the event, it’s something a bit different for them and they really complement the whole occasion.

The gates open at 5pm and we usually have time for 3 bands, with me playing the best in classic rock music in-between the bands during the stage changeovers, and making announcements, doing birthday requests, announce the sponsors and having general banter with the crowd, and just keeping that atmosphere going, a job which I relish and really look forward to every year.

This year on Saturday 16th August for Narberth Outdoor Rock we see the return of the fantastic Queen tribute band ‘Don’t Stop Queen Now’, after their awesome performance at ‘NOR’ 2 years ago. Playing as support bands we have the fantastic rock band ‘4th Street’ and the incredible ‘Funktion 22 Party Band’ to kick things off and generate the atmosphere.

On a personal level, it’s been an absolute pleasure to work alongside ‘Narberth & Whitland Rotary’ and ‘Narberth RFC’ and I have been involved with them on the Narberth Outdoor Rock committee for a couple of years now working towards this year’s event and indeed with one eye on 2026 too. See you on Saturday 16th August 2025, and if you’re celebrating anything, just let me know for a ‘shout out’!’

Cheers. Steve Briers
