Narberth & Whitland Rotary – Charity Bike Ride
Il Giro Di Pembrokeshire
Sunday 4 September 2022
Introduction
We like to describe the Il Giro Di Pembrokeshire as a challenging ride. But it is NOT brutal, just tough! This year we have two routes, so you enjoy a wider range of countryside and will as last year, start at Bloomfield House Community Centre and finish at Narberth RFC ground. The bar will be open and hot food will also be available.
Entry Fees are again very modest, based on age of participant and range from £5.00 for 12 and under, £10 for 13 to 17 and £15.00 for 18 and over. You may enter for just 50p if you agree to raise minimum sponsorship. Details are given in the Event Guidance Notes.
Covid Restrictions
Please note the event is subject to any Covid Restrictions should they be introduced. This may restrict the way we run the event or in the extreme case have to postpone the event. Any changes will be notified to you by email. However, we recommend you to check our website too for updates.
The Routes
The two routes on offer this year are approximately 30 and 60 miles long. Both contain short cuts, should you find the ride too much for you on the day. More detail is given after the route descriptions. The Start and Registration are at Bloomfield House Community Centre, Redstone Road, Narberth SA67 7ES. Parking is available in the top Car Park. Please do not use the lower car parks, they are required for the less mobile centre users. Registration opens a minimum of 30 minutes before the ride leaves. See below for departure times. Please come earlier, to avoid a crush
30 Mile Route
This is a challenging course, but with no major climbs. You will have some, but they are either steep but short, or long but gentle and they are broken up so you get a chance to recover between them. The total 2,766 feet of climbing sounds worse than it is, but you will need to be moderately cycle fit to enjoy the ride. You will be rewarded with some beautiful descents and stunning countryside with a wide variety of terrain from open countryside to the foothills of the Preselli Hills when you get to Maenclochog. Generally being on minor roads you will have little traffic to deal with. But please remember you are on a public road, so stay alert. The 30 mile Ride Starts at 10:30.

CUE SHEET
Rider fitness
Not sure if you’re fit enough ? Or, simply concerned you may not make it to the end. Dont worry!
We all have off days, so in addition to the SAG Wagon for those who need to retire, we have a number of short cuts which are described in the Cue sheets. So, if you are feeling tired use a short cut, but please text the organisers if you go home before reaching the end so we know where you are. In addition, you are free to change your distance on the day. Just advise the organisers when signing on. The routes will be signed but you should take time to study them on a map. Signs can get moved by the wind or lost altogether !
60 Mile Route
This is a tough course with some serious hills to challenge both your physical and mental preparation. You should only enter if you are a regular cyclist, doing at least 40 miles a week. However, you will be rewarded with some very impressive countryside varying from picturesque rolling farmland, stunning views from the Preselli Hills, as well as waterside sections contrasting with tree lined lanes and wooded sections all on relatively quite roads. But please remember you are on a public road, so stay alert. It is a ride you will remember long after you have forgotten 5,646 feet of climbing! The 60 mile Ride Starts at 9:00.
