On Saturday, 16 August 2025, Narberth & Whitland Rotary, in collaboration with Narberth Rugby Football Club, hosted their premier fundraising event of 2025 – Narberth Outdoor Rock, held on the rugby field at NRFC.
Acting as compere for the night was DJ Steve Briars, together with support from N&W Rotary past president Phil Thompson (MBE) and RFC Club Chairman Rob “Basher” Lewis.
Opening the event was local band Funktion 22, featuring the jazzy vocals of lead singer Charlotte, backed by smooth rhythm and bass, together with an outstanding brass section. Their set lasted 90 minutes and featured many well-known and beloved standards from the annals of pop, R&B, jazz fusion, soul and funk.
Following Funktion 22, the pulsating rock and metal band from Cardiff, Fourth Street, took the stage and really got the crowd dancing in the aisles with their versions of rock classics from bands such as Black Sabbath, The Darkness, Guns ‘n’ Roses, and Stereophonics.
Closing the show was the headline band, Don’t Stop Queen Now, who were at NOR for the second time in as many years. Their non-stop set was jam-packed with Queen classics such as “We Will Rock You,” “Another One Bites the Dust,” “I Want to Break Free,” and the record-breaking number one hit from 1975, “Bohemian Rhapsody.” By this time, the crowd was really jumping and loving every outrageous and flamboyant action of front man “Freddie Mercury.”
Alas, the end of the evening came all too soon; the lights dimmed (well, came on actually to facilitate the litter pick of the rugby field) the music faded, and several hundred happy music fans exited the field, many with fulsome praise for all the bands and a vow to return next year.
